Staying true to the performance-oriented design and 10 mm heel-toe offset of the previous version, the Brooks Launch 5 should have a fast feel with enough cushioning for daily training. The high heel-toe offset sets it apart from many performance trainers and is incorporated in order to avoid stress on the achilles and lower leg that can be caused by switching from a high offset trainer to a low offset performance shoe. If the Launch 4 worked well for you, the Launch 5 should be a pleasing update.
The midsole and outsole of the Launch 5 have the same tooling as the Launch 4, so the underfoot feel should be identical. A BioMoGo DNA midsole delivers a responsive feel and cushioning that adapts to the runner’s foot. The large area of blown rubber on the outsole at the forefoot is intended to create higher rebound while abrasion-resistant rubber at the toe and the heel promote durability.
To create a breezier feel, the Launch 5’s upper has been completely redesigned. Now constructed with a single piece of engineered mesh laid over an internal bootie, the fit should be snug with a bit more flexibility and improved breathability.
The cumulative effects of the updates on the weights of the Launch 5 are slight, and both the men’s and the women’s weigh approximately the same amount as their predecessors.
